BREAKING: Multiple Douglas Co. Deputies Down – Shooter Still Active

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has reported multiple deputies are down, and the scene is ongoing.

Douglas County, CO – Multiple deputies have been shot early Sunday morning and residents have been told to shelter in place, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

The DCSO told KKTV the situation is, “Not looking good for us.”

“We have multiple officers down,” said DCSO Deputy Jason Blanchard.

“We are not giving numbers or status at this point, we are still working on getting the suspect in custody,” he said.

DCSO deputies had responded to a shots fired call at an apartment complex at 3403 East County Line Road, between Colorado and University Boulevards in the Highlands Ranch area, according to KMGH.

Deputies have warned the public to avoid the area and multiple road closures are being reported. A Code Red has been sent by the DCSO to residents in the area, warning residents to stay away from windows and exterior walls.

Meghan Lopez, a reporter with KMGH, reported hearing shots fired in the distance when she arrived on scene.

The number of deputies down or the extent of possible injuries was not immediately known. A DCSO SWAT team is on scene.

UPDATE: Five deputies shot, one deputy confirmed killed, and two citizens shot. The responding officers have shot the gunman and they “believe” he is dead.

It’s not clear if they have been unable to enter the apartment where the suspect is. Unconfirmed reports from initial traffic is there was an unresponsive deputy in the apartment still.
